Tool steel 1.2436 Chemical Composition (%)

Hot Forming

Forging: 1050 to 850℃, slowing cooling in furnace.

Heat Treatment

Annealing: 800 to 850℃, slow cooling in furnace (10-20℃/hr), down to approx. 600℃, cooling in air. Hardness after annealing: max. 250HB.

Stress relieving: approx. 650℃, slow cooling in furnace. Hold in neutral atmosphere for 1 to 2hours.

Hardening: 9400 to 980℃, oil, air or hot bath at350℃ to 450℃; 960 to 980℃, quenching in forced air.for thickness up to 30mm. Hold 15 to 30 minutes. Hardness obtainable, 60 to 64 HRC.

Tempering: Slowly heating to tempering temperature right after hardening. Recommended to temper 2 or 3 times to increase toughness.

Tool steel 1.2436 Properties

The tungsten content provides an improved hardenability; very good wear resistance, excellent deep hardening properties and good dimensional stability. Moderate toughness.

High performance blanking and punching dies (also for silicon steel sheet), circular and straight shear blades, for sheet thickness up to 2 mm; cold extrusion tools (upper and bottom dies); deep-drawing tools; tools for cold forming of nuts and rivets; hobbing dies; flanging tools; guide rolls; forming and sizing rollers for continuous production of steel profiles and tubes; forming tools for ceramics and for powder metallurgy; cutting tools for paper and plastics; broaches and similar tools.
